This is turned from a Banksia grandis nut, which grows on a 5 to 10 metre tall tree, or a stunted shrub, commonly occurring in South Western Australia.
The nut is turned and polished on the lathe, exposing the perforated core, while leaving parts of the outer surface and fur layer to illustrate the unusual characteristics of this particular species.
